NEWS POLICE

Last evening there was an intense discussion on the TV News shows by the various pundits about the proposal by the current White House Administration.  It was regarding the FCC placing "monitors" in the nations media outlets to assess the policies of the newspapers and TV stations on the news et cetera.  It seems to be a pointless exercise apart from being illegal since everything the Media does and says is fully published.  It is further appalling because the FCC has nothing to do with the publishing of newspapers and secondly there is The Constitution.  Quoting in part from the Amendment I:

".....or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press..."

and again in part from the Amendment  IV.

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause supported by Oath or affirmation......."

With a former law professor as our President it is quite unbelievable that such an idea is even mentioned let alone proposed.  For this current administration The Constitution seems to be a troubling document to be ignored and twisted when it suits them.  The behaviour of the President is in complete violation of his oath of office to support and defend The Constitution of the United States.

On March 07, 1973 an event of the greatest importance took place in our family when NAUTICAL LOG became a citizen of the United States of America.  It was because of The Constitution that one wanted to become a Citizen with all its guarantees of the Bill of Rights a dream in most other nations.  Countries which may have said they had those same guarantees but had not written them down and published them for the world to see, the United Kingdom does not have a written constitution the last being the Magna Carta.  So it is with shock that one heard this discussion last evening to create media spies in the form of FCC News Police.

It is rather naive to criticise the autocratic behavior of President Vladimir Putin when we have the same autocratic behavior from our own President of the United States of America.

NOTE IN PASSING:

It seems the current administration is not the only group afraid of free speech.  This morning NAUTICAL LOG got a warning from both Windows® and Microsoft® that there were Trojan and Malware attacks on my computer and these had been traced back to Sea Shepherd supporters.  One supposes these are in revenge for our criticism of their activities.  Very few blogs  these days address the behavior of the SSCS but we shall continue to do so when the occasion demands.  Without a free press a nation slowly throttles to its death - look around the world news this morning for some prime examples.

Good Watch.

PAINT LOCKER FIRES

The photographs above are revealing in several ways, lets have a look. Clearly the Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) vessel JS "Kurama" impacted the Korean container ship MS "Carina Star" just aft of the turn of the fo'cs'le on the Starboard side. Please note that's the Starboard side, thus it appears JS "Kurama" would have shown "Carina Star" the red port sidelight and "Carina Star" would have shown JS "Kurama" the green starboard sidelight. This impact point would tend to suggest that JS "Kurama" was the 'stand-on' vessel and the MS "Carina Star" is the 'giving-way' vessel. Until there is a complete plot of the tracks made good of both these vessels and the position in the Kanmon Strait of the point of collision no determination can actually be made. As a result of this impact there was severe bow damage to JS "Kurama" and in addition a massive f

HOW TO WEAR A LIFEJACKET

A popular U.S.-based cruise ship style A popular European ferry style Several times during the year NAUTICAL LOG has had visitors searching for lifejacket instructions. With two just over Christmas we decided to publish something for everybody to see and read. Choose a Coast Guard approved life-jacket and make sure it is undamaged. Make sure life-jackets are readily accessible, never locked away. Check the fit, there are adult, child and infant sizes, the correct one MUST be used. Choose bright colour life-jackets so as to be seen easily by Search and Rescue (SAR). Put your life-jacket ON BEFORE you leave the berth. Make sure you have a light and whistle attached AND they BOTH WORK. Good Watch

BOUILLABAISSE

TAAF Service vessel operated by CMA CGM TAAF Regional flag Well now let us see if here at NAUTICAL LOG we have got a grasp on things simmering in the pot. It seems that when the anti-whaling campaign started out some years ago it was between Greenpeace, the Sea Shepherds and the Japanese whaling fleet. The Australians came down to their own Southern Ocean Territory in a chartered civilian vessel one year. Beyond taking photographs and returning some Sea Shepherds to their ship the MS "Steve Irwin" not much was accomplished. The Greenpeace crowd then dropped out and Animal Planet boarded the MS "Steve Irwin" to shoot 'reality TV' and so Whale Wars came into being. This resulted in some deplorable behaviour on all sides and some appalling exhibitions of seamanship - or rather total lack of seamanship by the Sea Shepherds. But now there was money coming in which could be spent on - well nobody really knows what the money is spent on. New Zealand made it q
